Center for Excellence in Learning through Service
The Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service (CELTS) was established in 1991 and modeled after its predecessor, Students for Appalachia. Here at CELTS, we focus on community service and civic engagement through a variety of ways that include mentoring, tutoring, and social justice advocacy. As an umbrella organization, CELTS hosts a variety of different programs that serves a variety of different groups in our community.
Our mission is to educate students for leadership in service and social justice through promotion and coordination of academic service-learning and student-led community service. We envision an educational system that successfully combines community service with academic learning to create an environment which challenges and prepares students to be critical thinkers, reflective learners and active members of just communities, near and far.
