Dr. Kelsey Frady Malone is a specialist in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American art, with a particular focus on American women photographers, sculptors, and illustrators. Her research examines the wide variety of ways that women engaged in collaborative strategies – by forming their own professional organizations, mentoring one another, and sharing studios, living spaces, and commissions – to navigate an increasingly commercial and professionalizing art world and to achieve success in a profession that had historically been closed to them.
