Pi Mu Epsilon, The Mathematics Honorary Society

Background:

Pi Mu Epsilon is an national mathematics honor society founded in 1914 whose purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions. The organization consists of chapters at various approved institutions of learning. There are currently 276 such chapters, one of which being Kentucky Epsilon, the Berea College Chapter.

Membership:

Membership is initiated through the chapters. A person who has been initiated remains a member for life, regardless of continued affiliation with an institution having a chapter. Initiations are held each spring in conjunction with an invited speaker and a dinner. Kentucky Epsilon has the following requirements for membership:

Requirements for Sophomore Inductees:

1. Must have achieved a grade of “A” in the following courses:

2. Have a GPA in the top 25% of the Sophomore class.

OR

1. Must have achieved a grade of “A” in the following courses:

2. Be currently enrolled in MAT 330, Calculus III for Spring Term.
3. Have a GPA in the top 25% of the Sophomore class.

Requirements for Junior or Senior Inductees:

1. Must have taken the following courses:

2. Have a GPA of 3.0 or greater in mathematics courses.
3. Have an overall GPA in the upper one-third of their class.
