The C. Louis Smith Award
Named after a former Political Science professor and Dean of the College, the C. Louis Smith Award is given annually to the most outstanding student in the Political Science program. Selection is made by the members of the faculty.
Department Labor Award Winners
The Blanton Prize
Given annually to one graduating Senior, majoring in Political Science and/or History, for excellence in their fields and demonstration of “strong writing skills.”
E. Taylor Parks Award
Similar to the Blanton Prize, the Parks Award goes to a graduating senior who has “demonstrated excellence in the fields of History and/or Political Science.” It is named for the former chair of the two departments Dr. E. Taylor Parks and was established by Mr. E.R. Brann (’42).
Channell Barbour Political Science Essay Award
This award is given to an African American Political Science major with Junior or Senior status and a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. The Award ended in 2010.
Helen Brann Scholarship in the Social Sciences
This award went to students in the social sciences who have demonstrated “outstanding character and financial need as well as an outstanding ability in their chosen field.” The award ended in 2004.
Albert G. Weidler Memorial Scholarship in Social Studies
Awarded annually for excellence in the study of economics, business administration, history, sociology, psychology, and political science.
