Prof. Richey to Japan in Spring 2024

Professor Jeff Richey, who is on sabbatical leave during the 2023-24 academic year, has been awarded a Visiting Faculty Fellowship by the Associated Kyoto Program based at Dōshisha University in Kyōto, Japan.  In spring 2024, he will teach a course at Dōshisha on “Nara Period Japan” and conduct research on the 8^th century empress who ruled Japan twice, under the names Kōken 孝謙 and Shōtoku 称徳, and was the last woman to wield real imperial power in Japanese history.
