Hello Berea College community! My name is Carol Poston, and I am the new Pastoral/Spiritual Counselor. I work with students on a wide range of mental health issues including grief, loss and trauma, specializing in EMDR based therapies. I also bring a specialization in pastoral counseling. I help students utilize their spiritual beliefs and practices as an avenue towards healing. Folks often dismiss the pastoral aspect if they don’t attend church, but spirituality is much broader than attending church. Spirituality is the way we make meaning in our lives, the way we connect to ourselves, to others and to the significant or sacred. Everyone is spiritual. I can help you identify that which is most important to you and help utilize that towards healing. You can schedule with me by stopping by my office or emailing me.
I’m an Iowa native, ordained in The United Methodist tradition. I’ve served churches in rural Iowa and Kentucky before becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been a hospice chaplain and bereavement counselor for Bluegrass Care Navigators, visiting homes all over southeastern Kentucky. My greatest “claim to fame” is that I once had an art quilt on display at the Artisan Center. I am thrilled to officially be a part of the Berea College community that I have loved and admired for over 20 years. Please stop by my office and say “Hi!”, 111 Draper.
