PRIDE
The bell hooks center celebrates PRIDE each year in October, during the week of National Coming Out Day and in observance of the first and second (1970, 1987) Marches on Washington, with a week-long, campus-wide celebration. In addition to inviting notably LGBTQ+ scholars and activists to deliver remarks, the bell hooks center celebrates PRIDE with workshops (for example, on how to collect LGBTQ+ oral histories, and on effective strategies for creating queer media), movie nights, outdoor activities with appearances from organizations like “Free Mom Hugs,” and programming that connects Berea College students, faculty, and staff to queer members of the local community.
