Without your support, students like communications major Mack ’24 of Georgetown, Kentucky, wouldn’t know the immense financial relief of a tuition-free, high-quality college education. Mack also wouldn’t have had the chance to form life-altering bonds with her professors and peers in Berea’s outstanding broadcast journalism program. Mack would also lack her career-defining Labor Program experience as managing editor of Berea College News & Radio, the College’s student news outlet.
Without your help, Mack would not have been able to leave the country for her first time ever when she studied writing abroad in Germany and France last winter, nor would she be in Milwaukee right now finishing a competitive internship at a high-profile news station. Simply put, without your generosity, Berea College would not be Berea College.
Thankfully, Mack and her classmates will never have to see Berea without support like yours. Instead, Mack gets to focus on what she loves most—writing breaking news and assigning articles to other student reporters. These are the skills of a professional reporter and editor, and she is learning them before she even graduates, all because of your generous support.
“I love going to work; it’s the best part of my day!” Mack said. “I feel so lucky Berea has professional studio equipment like the cameras, green screens, and editing software that are actually used at real news stations. I get to put all that on my résumé! Berea lets me do it all!”
With your support, Mack gets to write the future she deserves instead of wondering whether she’ll be crushed with student debt, or worse—missing out on college completely.
What’s better than earning an outstanding four-year degree from Berea College? Earning lifelong friendships along the way! Or if you’re like Mack, you get to bring your twin sister along with you (“I’m 12 minutes older, and I want to make sure everyone knows it, please,” Mack said).
