<p><strong>Changing a password</strong><br />
As long as the current password is known, changing a password is easy and requires no prior enrollment.  Simply Click “Change Password” on the right and enter your User Name, Current password, New password, and then Reconfirm your new password by typing it again.  Be sure that your password meets the guidelines presented at the bottom of the page.</p>

</strong>Password Management is a set of tools available through the internet that allow you to change your account password, unlock a locked account, or reset a forgotten password.</p>

<p><strong>Setting up Password Management</strong><br />
In order to use Password Management for resetting a forgotten password or unlocking an account you must have completed the initial enrollment.  It is recommended that all users take a few minutes to set up your security questions for Password Management so that these tools available in the event that a password is forgotten or account locked.</p>
<p>This same process can be used to update your security questions after enrollment.</p>
<p><strong><em>IMPORTANT:  If you have not set up Password Management these tools will not be available if your account is locked or you do not know the current password.</em></strong></p>

<p>Berea365 (Office 365) is Berea College’s only email solution. Berea365 offers many benefits:</p>

Sending and receiving secure email

<p>MFA provides an extra layer of security by verifying that you are the one using your login credentials to get access to College resources. It protects you and the College by preventing the use of your login and password in the in the event that they are obtained by someone other than you by contacting you each time your credentials are used.</p>
<p><strong>How does it work?</strong><strong><br />
</strong>Duo can verify that you are the one using your credentials in a number of ways; by sending a ‘push notification’ to your phone, by sending you a text message, by calling your cellular or desk phone, or by checking for a USB key connected to your computer. You can select the method(s) that you prefer, and you can change them at any time.</p>
<p><strong>What systems does Duo protect?</strong><strong><br />
</strong>Duo protects most systems that you use your Berea credentials for daily. For example, Box, Outlook, VPN, and more.</p>
<p><strong>How do I get registered?</strong><strong><br />
</strong>You can self-register the first time you access one of the systems that Duo protects – the process only takes a moment and is very simple. Once you are set up to use Duo you will get a prompt in your browser window the first time you access web email or Box. Just answer a couple of questions and you’ll be protected! You will need to select the methods you prefer to use and follow a few simple steps depending on which options you select. You may need to provide a telephone number, install an app on your phone, and/or connect your USB authenticator key depending on the options you choose. More details on these options can be found here.</p>
<p><strong>What do I do if I don’t have my cell phone, USB key, or am away from my contact number?</strong><strong><br />
</strong>The Helpdesk will be able to temporarily bypass Duo if you need to get logged in and don’t have access to your authentication method, but this is only temporary. For Duo to be effective, it needs to be enabled at all times.</p>
<p>If you have chosen to use the Duo authenticator app on your cell phone and your phone has been damaged or lost, the Helpdesk can assist you in installing the app on a new phone or in selecting a different verification method.</p>
<p><strong>How often is Duo going to contact me for verification?</strong><strong><br />
</strong>When you use Duo for the first time each day you will be able to check a small box that will allow you to use that computer all day without any further Duo notifications. If you forget to check this box Duo will prompt you the next time you access a protected system, but each time you see the web notification for Duo you will have the option to bypass Duo prompts for the rest of the day.</p>

What is DUO or Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and why does Berea College require it?

<p>If you require an additional network connection in your office, email the <a href="mailto:help_desk@berea.edu">Helpdesk</a> requesting a ticket be opened for your request. Someone from the Network Services Team will then get a quote for the work requested, send it to you for approval, and request the account information to used fund this work. Once we receive the account information we will work with you to schedule the work at a convenient time.</p>
<p><em><strong>Important Note:</strong>  Please do not install your own router, hub, or switch! These devices can interfere with your network connection, your phone, and create a sever security risk for the College. If these devices are discovered they will be disconnected and/or removed. The only approved way to add additional network connections in any given location is through the IT Department. We will be happy to discuss all possible options in the event that additional network connections are needed.</em></p>


College employee needs another network connection in my office, what do I do?

<h2>General Information:</h2>

<p>There are two supported wireless networks available on campus in administrative, academic, and residential spaces:  <strong>BCSecure and BereaBYOD</strong>.</p>
<p>There are two additional legacy networks that remain in the MAC building as well as the Boone Tavern Hotel:  BereaSecure and BereaGuest.</p>
<p>Please be aware that not all devices will be able to connect to all of these wireless networks. Some devices designed primarily for use in the home (Roku, Apple TV, Kindle e-ink devices, etc.) do not support enterprise-level wireless security protocols, so they will not be able to access the BCSecure or BereaSecure wireless networks. We provide wireless networks specifically for use with these devices in locations across campus – BereaBYOD and BereaGuest.</p>
<p><em>* Please also keep in mind that wireless networks are not as reliable or stable as wired networks even in the best of circumstance are not as fast as a wired connection. If you are in an area of high utilization or radio frequency interference, or if you are far from the nearest access point, you may experience intermittent slowness and/or decreased performance.</em></p>
<h3>General Campus Wireless Networks –</h3>
<h3>BCSecure:</h3>
<ul>
<li>For Student, Faculty, and Staff use.</li>
<li>Provides non-rate-limited access to all internal College systems just as if you were connected to a wired network outlet.</li>
<li>To gain access to this network you <em>must</em> have a valid Berea College username and password.</li>
<li>This is the preferred campus network in all buildings for devices that are capable of connecting with a Berea College username and password.
<ul>
<li>If your device cannot connect to BCSecure, please refer to BereaBYOD information on gaining the same campus network connectivity via our device registration portal.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<h3>BereaBYOD:</h3>
<p>This wireless network services guests of the campus, but also provides an additional non-rate limited access for employees and students to connect various gaming, entertainment, or smart devices to the college network. This network provides the same connectivity campus users have with BCSecure and is the same level of encrypted security.</p>
<ul>
<li>Guests of the college can use the BYOD portal to register a guest account.  This will provide wireless access for 24 hours.
<ul>
<li>To do so, visitors should connect to the BereaBYOD network and open a browser.  This will direct guests to the BYOD portal — below the login prompt is an option to create an account.</li>
<li>Guests will need to provide a name, email address, and accept the terms of use. Once the account is created, a username, guest password, and expiration time will be provided.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Employees and students can register devices that are incompatible with the BCSecure network.
<ul>
<li>Examples are Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Bring-Your-Own-Devices (BYOD) which may include gaming consoles, streaming devices, smart speakers, and other smart devices.</li>
<li>These devices will often not allow you to connect to wireless with your username and password and will have the option to enter only the password to the network you are connecting to, or require you to connect to the device through an app on your phone.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<p>Before registering devices to the BYOD network, you must know the MAC address of your device(s).  Below are instructions on how to connect to BereaBYOD and where to find the MAC address on common devices.</p>

<h3>Legacy Networks:</h3>
<ul>
<li><strong>BereaSecure</strong>: This network is available to anyone with a Berea College campus account and is the preferred network for an employee or student use in buildings where the legacy networks remain.</li>
<li><strong>BereaGuest</strong>: This network is available for use by visitors of the college, or by devices that cannot authenticate to BereaSecure with a Berea username and password. The password to this network is available on the dashboard of myBerea and can be provided to guests by their campus sponsor.</li>
</ul>

Accessing the Berea College Wireless Network

<p>These devices were designed primarily for use in a home setting, where only simple security measures are used, so they are limited in the types of wireless networks to which they can connect. Here at the College we use enterprise level wireless security (WPA2 + encryption) which is much more involved and which, unfortunately, is not supported by many of these devices, so you will only be able to connect them to the network wall outlet in your dorm room.</p>

Accessing the Wireless Network with your Roku or Apple TV device

<h4>Using a laptop computer</h4>
<ol>
<li>Close your browser window, wait 5 seconds, and then open your browser – this will prompt the system to direct you to the usage agreement page again.</li>
<li>Turn your WiFi adapter off, wait 5 seconds, and then turn it on again.<em> (Sometimes Windows-based clients need a full reset of the WiFi adapter before they can properly negotiate a secure connection.)</em></li>
<li>Reboot your computer and then try to connect to BereaGuest.</li>
<li>Remove the profile for BereaGuest (this process varies from one device to the next) and attempt to connect again.</li>
<li>Mac users only: Delete the keychain entry for BereaGuest and then attempt to connect again.</li>
</ol>
<h4>Using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod</h4>
<ol>
<li>Close your browser app completely, wait 5 seconds, and then open your browser – this will prompt the system to direct you to the usage agreement page again.</li>
<li>Touch Settings</li>
<li>Touch General</li>
<li>Scroll down and touch Reset (Don’t Panic!)</li>
<li>Touch Reset Network Settings (this clears ONLY your wireless network settings)</li>
<li>Try to connect to the BereaGuest network again once the device is ready.</li>
</ol>
<p>If you still cannot access the wireless network please contact the Helpdesk at x3343 or visit us in the Hutchins Building and we will help you resolve this issue.</p>

Under the prompt “Part of Berea College?” choose <strong>Continue</strong> and fill out the required information using your Berea email user name and password. If asked to enter your department, you can fill this out or choose to skip at the bottom. Once completed, you will have quick and instant access to the Box.</p>

<p>Box content will remain available for 90 days after an employee or student account is disabled for offboarding. After 90 days Box content is purged.</p>

Request an organizational folder in Bereabox

<p><strong>Problem:</strong><br />
I need to install _______ (any campus software) from the network.</p>
<p><strong>Instructions:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Open your Start menu.</li>
<li>Select “Control Panel”</li>
<li>Select “Add or Remove Programs”</li>
<li>On the left side select “Add New Programs”</li>
<li>Select the program you wish to install from the list that appears</li>
<li>Click the “Add” button and follow the specific directions from there.</li>
<li>You may be required to restart your computer.</li>
</ol>
<p>If you do not see the program you are looking for, please contact the <a href="https://www.berea.edu/academics/departments-programs/womens-gender-and-sexuality-studies/colloquium-series/">Helpdesk</a>.</p>


If I want to install a new piece of campus software over the network, what do I need to do?

<p><strong>Problem:</strong><br />
The system could be slowed down for a number of reasons. Most commonly this problem exists due to large amounts of spyware and/or adware on your computer. Many websites on the internet carry ‘mini programs’ that are made to run on your computer without you knowing it. These programs can do anything from monitoring your internet use, to storing data that you input into forms such as username, passwords, etc.</p>
<p><strong>Solution:</strong><br />
The first step in solving this issue is installing anti-spyware software from the network that will help you delete these “mini programs.” (Example: Ad-Aware)</p>
<p><strong>Instructions:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Click on Start</li>
<li>Click on “Control Panel”</li>
<li>When the Control Panel window appears, double-click on “Add or Remove Programs.’”</li>
<li>When the “Add or Remove Programs” window appears, click on the “Add Programs” icon on the left pane.</li>
<li>After you have clicked on “Add Programs” a new list will appear. This list is a list of all possible software that can be downloaded to your computer from the college network. This list is arranged alphabetically.</li>
<li>The first program that you need to install is “Ad-Aware Personal SE” this should be first on the list of programs.</li>
<li>Click on the “add” button that will appear next to the “Ad-Aware Personal SE” selection.</li>
<li>Clicking the “add” button will automatically install the program onto your computer.</li>
<li>After setup has completed, you are now ready to run the program on your computer.</li>
<li>To run the program, click on “Start.”</li>
<li>Click on “All Programs.”</li>
<li>On your list of programs, find and point your mouse over “Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal SE.”</li>
<li>When the menu expands, click on “Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal SE”</li>
<li>When the program starts, you will see a button that says “start” in the bottom-right on the screen. Click on that “start” button.</li>
<li>Next, you will see a list of options for scans that you can perform on your system. Select “Perform Full System Scan.”</li>

<p><strong>Memory Upgrades<br />
</strong>Students are free to purchase a memory upgrade if they feel it would help with their successful use of an EDGE computer.  Installation assistance is available at the Helpdesk in the Hutchins Building.</p>
<p><strong>Storage Upgrades<br />
</strong>Students are not authorized to upgrade or replace the hard drive, SSD or optical media drive in an EDGE computer.  If additional storage is required, students are encouraged to use <a href="https://legacy.berea.edu/iss/berea-box/" rel="noopener">Bereabox</a> for cloud storage or purchase a USB attached external hard drive, flash drive or optical media drive.</p>
<p><strong>Replacement Battery<br />
</strong>The EDGE program provides up to one replacement battery per student.  To obtain a battery replacement, bring the computer to the Helpdesk in the Hutchins Building and request a battery evaluation.  If the battery is not functional or holds less than thirty minutes of charge, a replacement will be provided.  Additional battery replacement after the first one can be done but the cost will be charged to the student’s account.</p>

Printing How-To Guides 

<p><strong>Problem:</strong><br />
Due to a printer malfunction, a paper jam, or cancellation of a print job using the printer’s menu functions, it is possible to be charged for a print job that does not actually print.</p>
<p><strong>Instructions: </strong><br />
Take note of the date and time of the incident.  Then go to the Printing Services office and let them know the date and time, and the number of pages you were charged for that did not print.  They will be able to verify your request from the print history logs and will work with you to make an appropriate adjustment to your account.</p>


I released my print jobs, but the pages did not print. What should I do?

<p>No.  Your account is not charged until the print job is released by swiping your card at a page counter terminal attached to a MFD (copier) or public printer.  If the time limit expires and the job is deleted without being released, no charges will be assessed.</p>


If I wait too long and my print job is deleted, will I still be charged?

<p>The Cost Preview popup shows information about the print job and gives you an opportunity to decide whether or not to accept the charges for printing.  If the job shows more pages than you expected or if your account balance is not enough to cover the cost, you will want to delete the job.  Following is a list of the lines shown on the Cost Preview popup with additional explanation.</p>
<p><strong>Document Name</strong> – shows the name of the print job as it appears in the printer queue.  This is usually the same as the file name of the document being printed.</p>
<p><strong>Job Information Details</strong> – shows the number of pages and the type of paper being sent to the printer.</p>
<p><strong>Job Information Cost</strong> – shows the amount that will be charged against your account if the job is accepted and released.</p>
<p><strong>Account Information Balance</strong> – shows the balance of print/copy credit on your account right now BEFORE any charges for the current job are deducted.  The charges for the current job will be deducted later at the time the job is released and printed at a public print station.</p>

<p>Note:  Even with the software installed, you will not see the popup when printing to any local printer you may have directly connected to your computer.</p>

Print the file as an image (this may take a little longer than normal printing).</p>

I can’t print a PDF file. How do I get it to print?

<p>Students can charge printing to the Print/Copy card most departments are using for student labor printing/copy work.<br />
To do so, the Prompt for Logon feature must be activated in your Equitrac Client software.  See the <a href="https://bereaedu.wpenginepowered.com/iss/wp-content/uploads/sites/133/2012/08/StudentLaborPrintingGuide.pdf" rel="noopener">Student Labor Printing Guide</a> or ask your supervisor for instructions on activating the Prompt for Logon feature and charging prints to the Print/Copy card.  Only output sent to public printers/copiers may be charged to a Print/Copy card or student account.  Charges are incurred at the time the Print/Copy card or student ID card is swiped at the page counter terminal to release printing.<br />
Students are not authorized to print to departmental laser printers.  Of course, if a student prints to one of the copiers/public printers with their own ID card, their personal account will be charged even if the documents were related to the student labor assignment.</p>


Will a student be charged for printing when working at student labor?

<p>All students are offered a $7.00 printing credit on their print/copy accounts each semester, compliments of the EDGE program.  New students automatically receive the credit for their first term when their accounts are set up.  Continuing or returning students must go to the Printing Services office each semester, present a valid student ID card and ask for the credit to be added to their account.</p>


Students:  How do I redeem my EDGE printing credit each semester?

<p>When printing, the Cost Preview popup shows your current balance.  You can also check your balance from the myBerea portal.  Locate the Other Accounts channel on the My Accounts tab, and click on the Equitrac Print / Copy Account link.  The portal will sign you on to the print system and display your account balance.  From that page, you can also click a link to display a report of the last 30 days of printer and copier activity and charges.</p>


Students:  Checking funds on print / copy account balance?

<p><strong>Problem</strong>:<br />
For some reason, swiping your ID badge at a page counter terminal does not result in the terminal identifying your account and releasing your jobs.</p>
<p><strong>Instructions</strong>:</p>
<ol>
<li>First, be sure the problem is not due to your account balance being too low.  In that case, the page counter terminal should recognize your ID badge and display your name, followed by the message “Insufficient Funds.”</li>
<li>Second, be sure you are swiping the badge with the magnetic stripe facing upward and the photo facing downward.</li>
<li>Third, if you have a new ID badge replacing one that was lost, note that it may take a day or so for Printing Services to update your print/copy account with the new badge issue number.</li>
<li>If the page counter terminal is not reading your ID badge, try the badge at another terminal.  If it does not work at either terminal, take the badge to the Student Accounts office in Lincoln Hall for examination and possible repair or replacement.</li>
<li>If the page counter terminal is reading your ID badge but showing the message “Invalid Account,” take your badge to the Printing Services office to verify that you have a print/copy account and to plan any additional follow-up needed to get your printing operational.</li>
</ol>
