Psychology

Graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology. Berea’s Psychology program prepares students for post-graduate jobs in psychology-related fields and also provides a firm foundation for graduate-level training. Students might pair their Psychology major with a minor in Sociology, Biology, or Child and Family Studies among others.

Opportunities & Internships

Psychology students can join the official Berea College chapter of Psi Chi, a national honor society associated with renowned organizations like the American Psychological Association (APS) and American Psychological Association (APA).

Summer Research gives students the opportunity to learn all aspects of empirical research. Students also interact closely with Berea professors on-campus and have completed paid off-campus internships.

The Senior Research course gives Berea psychology majors an edge that’s unique in the world of undergraduate studies. It provides the chance to create a start-to-finish original research project, present it to their peers, and present at a professional conference. Past conferences include the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS), Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA), and South-Eastern Psychological Association (SEPA).

Students can become a departmental teaching assistant, where they will sit in on classes, lead class discussions, make quizzes and assignments, and grade them. These are all invaluable experiences for graduate school applications.
