Bio

Zak Bray is a dedicated professional serving as a Residence Life Coordinator for Berea College. With a passion for fostering student growth and creating inclusive living environments, Bray oversees Shinn Hall, a returning student co-ed resident hall. Additionally, Bray holds the role of Mountaineers After Dark (MAD) Programming Coordinator, where he diligently works towards the mission of organizing educational events for the student body. His commitment to student engagement and development is further demonstrated through his active involvement as a member of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) 2023-24 Mid America leadership team. Bray's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Pikeville, which he obtained in 2020. Throughout his educational journey, Bray's research has centered around LGBTQIA+ student equity and inclusion, with a specific focus on intersecting identities within Christian affiliated institutions. This unique focus highlights Bray's dedication to promoting a sense of belonging for all students, irrespective of their backgrounds or affiliations. Recognized for his exceptional service, Bray was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel and a Commonwealth Ambassador in 2016 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This honor acknowledges his significant contributions to the state and his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Embodying the spirit of the Ayesha Siddiqi quote, "Be the person you needed when you were younger," Bray strives to be a role model and source of support for students, drawing upon his own experiences to uplift and empower them. When not immersed in his professional endeavors, Bray cherishes quality time spent with his loved ones, embarks on travel adventures, and enjoys the companionship of his faithful canine companion. Through his multifaceted experiences and unwavering dedication, Zak Bray exemplifies a professional committed to creating inclusive communities and empowering students to thrive.

The Residence Life Coordinator is a 12-month live-in, professional staff member who creates a welcoming residential environment that facilitates student engagement and involvement within the residence halls and the greater campus community. The Residence Life Coordinator supports the safety, security and the wholistic wellbeing of residents during their time on campus. Each member of the AC/RLC team is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and the dignity of labor for every student in support of The College’s Great Commitments.
