Erick Shyaka (“Shyaka”), who hails from Rwanda, is a proud international alumnus of Berea College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2019.  As a student, he helped build data systems for the Office of Sustainability to track and monitor essential campus metrics such as utility usage, the health of campus assets, safety, food waste, Green-house gas emissions, and waste diversion.  In his commitment to giving back to Berea, he has worked with a variety of departments across the campus as a data analyst prior to joining the Office of Strategic Initiatives as the Data and Budget Specialist. His primary duties in his new role include the monitoring of grant budgets as well as developing systems to better track outcomes and data. He is a voracious reader and always makes time to sharpen the saw.
